ERIE COUNTY ChapterThe Erie County Chapter will hold its monthly meetings:

**NEW START TIME** 2026 Meeting Schedule
| From the Chairman's Desk Marci and I are back from Florida where we spent the month of April. Thank you to Vice Chair Pat O’Donoghue for taking care of items and running April’s monthly meeting. Recently we held our monthly Board meeting on May 13 at the Legion Post. (Reminder to all that every member is welcome to attend and share their ideas.) We reviewed final details of June 14 SCOPE sponsored craft show at the Hamburg Moose Lodge, where we will sell SCOPE raffle tickets at the front door, draw the winner of the Father’s Day Weber Grill, sell SCOPE 50/50 tickets, etc. and keep all of the craft show’s proceeds for our Erie County Chapter. Anyone wanting to come for an hour to help is welcomed. Next week at our monthly meeting on May 27 @ 6:30 pm, I will give further news about the Legal Defense Fund and an upcoming presentation date from Attorney Peter H. Tilem, founder of the fund. We have a discount code from him available for SCOPE members, also to be reviewed at the meeting. Also at our May 27 meeting, our next firearms educational training will be presented entitled “What Happens With Your Firearms Upon Your Death”. More information will also be taught on the legal use of your firearm, i.e. continuation of Article 35, Methods of Carry, Best Summer Holster Platforms etc. I will also share with you NY SCOPE’s new initiatives to get citizens out to vote. On a different note, I am sharing my point of view regarding the numerous negative comments I have encountered from people about SCOPE, (not from people in our chapter, but from people that I run into when I mention SCOPE). You may also have experienced the same. I realize there apparently were undesirable circumstances with this organization years ago. I don’t even know the full details, yet I understand there would be bitterness. I want to make this perfectly clear. The old SCOPE leadership is long gone and a completely new group has emerged. The State SCOPE Officers are also new and are very positive individuals working to fight for our 2A rights. At the Erie County Chapter level, we are working hard for you, and one way in particular is through offering free member trainings/discussions at our meetings. We are experienced “gun guys” with backgrounds in military and law enforcement firearms instruction. We want to teach, instruct, and guide you to be safe, confident and comfortable with your firearms including everything else that goes along with owning them. This costs you nothing extra. Attend our meetings, increase your knowledge, find out how to become a VICTOR - not a VICTIM, and learn for yourself that the new Erie County SCOPE is on your side. Respectfully, |
In an effort to allow more member participation in our planning processes, we are opening up our Monthly Board Meetings to include any Erie County SCOPE member. | 2026 Erie Co Chapter Board Meetings 2:00PM |
Erie County Meeting Minutes: |
| Erie County Court Clerk Mickey Kearns appeared for an impromptu visit at 6:30 pm to talk about his business office, streamlining the pistol permit bureau and the DMV offices for quicker visits. He plans to return to formally speak to all members present at a future meeting. SCOPE Life Member Retired Supreme Court Justice William Boller presented also regarding the pistol permit process. He gave valuable insight on the “to do”s” and “what NOT to do” when filling out applications. He gave interesting stories of practical things to avoid doing with your concealed carry that he has dealt with through the years, that didn’t go so well for the permit holder. He plans to continue to work to support the office a few days a week to help with the workload. SCOPE President John Elwood was also present and gave his accolades to the Erie County Chapter for our productivity and success. He spoke on current egregious legislation found on the NYSCOPE website and the importance of getting gun owners out to the polls. He encourages all members to bring one person to join the membership.
